Farmers Protest: Farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have started nationwide protests for their demands including making a law regarding guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Farmer organizations of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have deployed on the borders of Delhi with their demands. Tear gas shells fired on farmers
To prevent farmers from entering the national capital, police along with paramilitary forces have been deployed as security measures at Delhi’s borders, including Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur, and cement blocks and spikes have been installed on approach roads. As a precautionary measure, Delhi Police imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) across the city and strengthened the borders. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issued these instructions for the next 30 days to ensure law and order amid the planned farmer protests against the central government.
A total of 114 companies, including 64 companies of paramilitary forces and 50 companies of Haryana Police, have been deployed in various districts. These units equipped with anti-riot equipment are deployed in border areas and sensitive districts. Two temporary jails built in Haryana
The farmers‘ movement is likely to have the biggest impact in Haryana. The Center has sent 64 companies of BSF and CRPF to handle the situation in the state.
Major demands of farmers :
Loan waiver of farmers and farm labourers.
200 days daily wage under MNREGA and Rs 700 per day wage.
Give Rs 10,000 per month to farmers and laborers when they turn 60 years old.
Legal guarantee of MSP as per Swaminathan report. The government itself should do crop insurance.
Cancellation of cases registered during the farmers‘ movement and jobs to the dependents of farmers who lost their lives.
Justice to the farmers who lost their lives in Lakhimpur Kheri and punishment to the culprits. Compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the injured farmers.
